about

As written in our Mission Statement, we are a Christian home-education support group. We are affiliated with the statewide Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Louisiana (CHEF) and serve families on the Northshore. We believe that raising and training our children is one of the most important responsibilities we have as parents. We believe that responsibility does not belong to the state or even to the church, but to parents.

Parents training and educating their children in a home-based setting have the greatest freedom and one of best forums for fulfilling their God-given responsibility. Children can, and have reached high academic goals through home schooling, but that is not the most important result of home schooling. Instead, parents can train up Godly children who are firmly established in their knowledge of Jesus Christ, who enjoy a meaningful relationship with Him, and who exhibit high moral character as they relate to others.

We are undeniably and unashamedly a Christian organization. We are not a church, but we support His church. Our beliefs are summed up in our doctrinal Statement of Faith which each member is asked to sign in agreement. Our Constitution and Bylaws are simple and straightforward. The like-minded support we find in this organization has proven to be invaluable to each of us as members.

The NHEA sponsors all kinds of activities that offer support to both Mom and Dad as well as to our children. These activities range from organized field trips to encouraging parent meetings. We publish a monthly newsletter called “HEAdlines”. It not only keeps us informed about the latest happenings, but also provides a format for our children to share some of their prized works. We have a very active and well-developed PE program that is fun and provides great exercise. Our Band program and Drama productions are very popular. Our Graduation and Awards Night is a very special evening of honor and recognition that will touch even the skeptic.

We usually sponsor a Spelling Bee, an Art Festival, a Science Fair, and a Heritage Festival. We also provide a testing opportunity to help you evaluate your child's progress if you like. We conduct our own curriculum fairs and used book sales. There are smaller support groups within our larger group to facilitate more personal support. We even publish a directory that gives you background on your fellow members so you can form your own smaller support group if you want. In fact, we encourage it!
