          | As written in our Mission Statement, we are a Christian-home-education-support group. We are affiliated with the statewide Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Louisiana (CHEF) and are located in the Covington/Mandeville area just north of New Orleans. We believe that raising and training our children is one of the most important responsibilities we have as parents. We believe that responsibility does not belong to the state or even to the church, but to parents. Parents training and educating their children in a home-based setting have the greatest freedom and one of best formats of fulfilling their God-given responsibility as well as the flexibility to develop an educational or training scope and sequence that contains the elements they want emphasized. Children can and have reached high academic goals through home schooling, but that is not the most important result of home schooling. Instead, through the vehicle of home schooling, parents can train up godly children who are firmly established in their knowledge of Jesus Christ, who have a meaningful relationship with Him, and who exhibit high moral character as they relate their fellowman. Thus, we are undeniably and unashamedly a Christian organization. We are not a church, but we support His church. Our beliefs are summed up in our doctrinal Statement of Faith to which we ask each member to sign in agreement. Our Constitution and Bylaws are simple and straightforward. The like-minded fellowship of support through this organization has proven to be invaluable to each of us as members. The HEA sponsors all kinds of activities that offer support to both Mom and Dad as well as to our children. These activities range from organized field trips to encouraging parent meetings. We publish a monthly newsletter called the HEAdlines. It not only keeps us informed about the latest happenings, but also provides a format for our children to share some of their prized works. We have a very active and well-developed PE program that is a lot of fun in addition to providing great exercise. Our Band program and Drama productions are very popular. Our Graduation and Awards Night is a very special evening of honor and recognition that will touch even the skeptic. We usually sponsor a Spelling Bee, an Art Festival, a Science Fair, and a Heritage Festival in addition to everything else. We provide a testing opportunity to help you evaluate your child's progress if you like. We even have our own library as well various curriculum fairs and used book sales. On top of all of this, there are smaller support groups within our larger group to facilitate more personal support. We even publish a directory that gives you background on your fellow members so you can form your own smaller support group if you want. In fact, we encourage it! |
